Welcome to my blog

Welcome to Dr Belinda’s Veterinary Blog Welcome! I hope you find this an informative, pet-focused, and at times light-hearted online community. On the blog, I’ll be sharing the ins and outs of small animal veterinary practice, offering personal recommendations, and celebrating the adorable pets that I meet and treat on a daily basis. Some background about me: I’m an exclusively small animal veterinarian and hospital director of a Sydney-based veterinary clinic, with 15 years’ experience in the industry. I graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science in 2005. I started at the bottom and have worked my way up. I am a cliché and I’m okay with it. I always wanted to be a vet – in fact, I remember my primary school principal laughing at me when I told her at age 11 that this was my goal. I performed Year 10 work experience at my local veterinary clinic, which resulted in me obtaining a job as a weekend kennel hand. Whilst studying my final year at school, I enrolled in TAFE and completed my certificate in Veterinary Nursing (night classes) so that I could work as a vet nurse throughout vet school. Like I didn’t have enough on my plate already! I was then fortunate enough to get into vet school (I always knew I would) and work part-time as a vet nurse at two clinics (one being an emergency hospital). When I graduated, I moved on from familiar ground and obtained my first job as a vet 1 hour away. Lucky me, I worked for one of the only practices in Sydney that still did their own after hours! Fast forward 7 years and I’m now a hospital director at the same local veterinary clinic at which I undertook work experience all those years ago! I’ve worked in a number of veterinary hospitals, focussing on small animals (my largest patient was a 76kg St Bernard). I’ve always enjoyed writing and now I’m combining two of my favourite things – my love for pets with writing. I’m hoping that I haven’t bitten off more than I can chew (as you can probably gather, that is one my talents) but I am looking forward to the challenge! I am a self-proclaimed nerd and absolutely LOVE my job! I share my home with one fur-baby (Jack, my 16 year old Maltese X), my long suffering husband, and our two daughters (aged 2 and 4). I work part-time, squeeze in continuing education (I’m currently studying towards a Master in Veterinary Medicine at Massey University), juggle the kids, write my blog, get snap happy with my camera, visit family as often as I can (we’re spread out all over the world) and run work’s Facebook page. This results in my mad life that I love. Hopefully you will enjoy being part of this online community! I will endeavour to respond to any comments and questions as soon as possible. However, for urgent matters, please contact me at the clinic or contact your local veterinarian. Please feel free to share pictures of your lovable pets at home. I always enjoy seeing my patients at home in their element, enjoying time with their loved ones. Join the conversation by following me on Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram!
